Caipirinha (National Cocktail of Brazil)

Makes 4 servings



  • 2 limes
  • 2 cups chopped ice
  • 4 teaspoons extra-fine sugar
  • 1/2 pint cachaça (or white rum)




Cut the limes into quarters and trim off the central membranes. Combine the limes and sugar in a large cocktail shaker and muddle them together. Add the cachaça and crushed ice, shake well and serve in chilled glasses garnished with lime slices.
