Tarte Au Sucre (Sugar Pie)

Recipe by Marguerite Girouard, Notre Goût Acadien (Our Acadian Taste)

 

 

Makes 1 pie

 

Ingredients:

 

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla or maple flavoring
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 prepared pie shell
  • Pastry dough for decorative strips

 

Instructions:

 

Mix everything and pour into an unbaked pie crust. Cover with strips of dough. Bake at 400°F for 10 minutes, lower the heat to 350°F and bake until done, about 30 minutes, or until sugar filling is set and does not stick to a fork.
