Dressed down or dressed up, guests should come as they are to steal a view of Sibley Lake while dining at Mariner’s in Natchitoches.

Mariner’s opened in 1983, and five years later, Natchitoches became a Hollywood set in the film adaptation of Steel Magnolias. Rumor has it that nearly every night of star Dolly Parton’s stay in Natchitoches, she and several members of the film staff dined at the establishment.

Mariner’s has seen several changes since Steel Magnolias. Additions to the facility include The Docks, a trilevel dining experience with an oyster and shrimp bar, and The Cove Bar & Grill, where live entertainment may be found every Friday and Saturday night.

For 35 years, the family-owned and operated restaurant has continued to proudly serve and specialize in both USDA choice Black Angus and Gulf seafood. For visitors sitting down to a meal at Mariner’s, cofounder Don Nichols suggests, “The first thing I’d find out is what the catch of the day is. We change it several times a week.” Don insists the daily catch and their steaks inspire guests to drive from 100 miles away to visit the restaurant.

“You know, the average person doesn’t live on the water, and they seldom have that view,” says Don. “I think it’s a relaxing thing for [guests] to be able to enjoy that with us.”
