Our editors recently checked these stops off their New Orleans bucket list and can’t wait to go again! They suggest you jump-start your vacation with a tour down the mighty Mississippi in the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen, New Orleans’ luxury riverboat. See the Crescent City from a truly unique point of view! The Paddlewheeler Creole Queen offers daily tours of the river, narrated by historians who share exciting stories about New Orleans’ 300-year history.
A stop at Chalmette Battlefield, the site of the final and decisive battle of the War of 1812, is led by National Park Service rangers. While aboard, enjoy a lunch buffet of traditional New Orleans food featuring dishes such as red beans and rice, gumbo, and jambalaya—or take advantage of bottomless mimosas on their morning cruises. New Orleans really comes alive at night, and so does the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen with its Dinner Jazz Cruise.
Feast on classic Creole cuisine and sip libations while listening to lively jazz music in one of the three lavishly appointed dining rooms, or take a walk on the promenade deck to soak up the sweet breezes of the Mississippi River and the spectacular lights of the New Orleans skyline. This majestic boat, with its large 20-foot red paddlewheel, beautiful wrought iron trim, and Victorian accents, is sure to make you feel like you’re stepping back in time.
