For the past 14 years, Louisiana Cookin’ has identified rising culinary stars simmering with talent and ambition who are leaving a mark on their communities, both in and out of the kitchen. The six eclectic and incredibly talented up-and-comers who make up the 2015 Chefs to Watch class focus on local ingredients with a nod to our culinary past and an eye toward the future.

These keepers of the flame carry on our traditions while nurturing the bodies and souls of our citizens with the creative flair that defines Louisiana’s cuisine. Above all, the 2015 Chefs to Watch have something special that makes us believe they will continue to blossom and enrich Louisiana’s vibrant dining scene.

The 2015 Chefs to Watch include Blake Abene of Square Root, who’s turning out stunning desserts in New Orleans’ Lower Garden District; David Sorrells of Restaurant Calla, who’s bringing modern, inventive dishes to Lake Charles; Melissa Martin of Mosquito Supper Club, who’s sharing authentic Cajun cuisine with the Crescent City; David Dickensauge of Bin 77, who is helping to elevate Baton Rouge’s restaurant scene; Jeffrey Hansell of Oxlot 9, inventive friend to Northshore farmers; and Nick Oskoian, a Monroe-born talent who’s landed in New Orleans at Chef John Besh’s newest venture, Willa Jean Bakery.
