Mardi Gras Eats: Louisiana’s Best Fried Chicken

HOUMA: Remember these wise words: Grease is good. Then find Bayou Delight in Houma for some truly outstanding fried chicken. And while you’re at it, treat yourself to some Cajun fried pickles and irresistible boudin balls.

MORGAN CITY: Anything fried at Rita Mae’s Kitchen is pretty addictive—catfish, oysters, shrimp, you name it. But the chicken is a standout. You’ll wonder how they make it so perfectly golden brown and juicy. It’s fun just to see the place— an old typical Southern house, with black and white tile and window-unit air conditioners. Great people watching, too.

  1. I don’t see Willie Mae’s Scotch House on the list. That’s the best fried chicken I’ve ever eaten in my life. It’s on St. Ann, in New Orleans.

    • Willie Mae’s Scotch House is indeed excellent! With this list, we tried to hit places all around the state. You’ll see Willie Mae’s on here before too long!

  2. The best fried chicken is in West Monroe! We have amazing restaurants in Ouachita Parish. Next time head to Magic Grill chicken in West Monroe for amazing chicken and rolls.

  3. Italian Pie in Chalmette, started selling fried chicken and its the best in St Bernard area for sure. Their red beans are also really good.
